Makarska (population 14.000) is the centre of Makarska Riviera, which is one of the most attractive regions in Croatia. Makarska is situated in a harbor naturally protected from the south-east by cape Osejava and by St. Peters peninsula on the north-west side. Above Makarska rises the mountain of Biokovo, which gives the unique fusion of sea and mountain. The trademark of Makarska is its long gravel beaches that reach all along the Makarska Riviera.
